Philippe Chouvarine developed and maintains the MGEL Intranet system, which is implemented as a password protected web application written in ASP.NET and is hosted on a IIS web server. There are various groups of users (Administrators, Postdocs, Graduate Students, Student Workers, Guests, etc.) each having a unique set of access privileges.  One of the major parts of the Intranet is the Ordering System which automates all MGEL purchases and accounting by maintaining a database of vendors, catalog items, chargeable accounts, ordered items, etc. Other portions of the Intranet include sequence analysis interfaces, private and public calendars, a lab inventory portal, a lab protocol interface, personnel information pages, and a DNA library tracking system (which includes a barcode reader page).  All of these features can be updated without a webmaster’s interaction. Another portion of the Intranet provides publicly-accessible information about DNA libraries and DNA sequences.
